Commercializing Cashew for Small-Scale Producers in Ghana

Red River Foods joined forces with GIZ, the German development agency, as a part of a multi-stakeholder partnership to enhance the competitiveness of African cashew smallholders, processors and other actors in the value chain in Ghana.

From production to processing, supply chain linkages to sectoral organization, Red River Foods helped contribute to the development of the company’s cashew sector. Under the program, we trained cashew farmers in the Bono and Bono East regions of Ghana on good agricultural practices and subsidized access to pruning and thinning services to optimize yields on cashew farms. By 2020, RRF Ghana trained over 1,000 farmers on good agricultural practices, mapped over 500 farms, and pruned and thinned over 350 farms in the Bono and Bono East regions as part of the initiative.
