Although Benin is one of the world’s largest producers of cashew, the country’s processing capacity has kept it from reaching its full potential: it still exports 92 per cent of its cashew as unprocessed raw nuts. Our partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and TechnoServe, aimed to make progress towards changing that.
For five years, we participated in BeninCajù, a sector-wide value chain approach aimed at strengthening and expanding the cashew sector into a more productive, competitive, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth engine for the people of Benin. To support the project, we provided training to cashew farmers across the country and aided cooperative development efforts.
