Jackfruit is the fruit of the Jack Tree, a species in the fig, mulberry and breadfruit family that is native to Southern India. It is the largest tree fruit in the world, reaching up to 80 pounds in weight. The average mature tree will produce 200 fruits per year with older trees producing up to 500 fruits per year.
Jackfruit lobes, or pods, can be eaten fresh or dried, ripe, or unripe; it features in sweet and savory dishes and is increasingly used as an animal protein alternative due to its meaty texture and ability to absorb flavors. Jackfruit has a unique flavor that is unlike any fruit common to the western hemisphere but the closest may be the mango. Our dried jackfruit lobes are best enjoyed as a healthful snack; eating jackfruit contributes to the feeling of satiety thanks to the fiber content and the naturally occurring sugars. The Jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and is the state fruit of the Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu
